 My favourite games

One of my favourite games that I've played recently has to be 'Death Stranding'. It's a game made by Hideo Kojima, a Japanese Game Director who made many other great games such as Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hills. This game has an amazing story to tell where you play as the main character, Sam Porter Bridges(Norman Reedus who previously acted in 'The Walking Dead') in a world on the verge of death stranding, where the line between the world of the dead and living is thin.


One of the reason why it is probably my favourite game is that even though the gameplay isn't anything extraordinary, the storytelling and worldbuilding is truly amazing and I would expect nothing less from Hideo Kojima. The music in this game is also amazing and fits in with the game really well. It was really an awe inspiring story and one of the few games that tells a story that well.

Another game that I've been enjoying recently has to be Monster Hunter: World(I've put almost 110 hours into that game in the past two weeks) It's a pretty straight forward game, hunt monsters varying from giant dodo birds to full on elder dragons, making equipment out of them and repeating the process. One reason it's so fun and addicting is due to the amount of different monsters and equipment that you can make in the game. You can easily put in 1000+ hours and still not have everything, which is why the grinding aspect of the game is so fun.

    Hi Justin! I watched a youtuber play death stranding and I absolutely love it. I feel like i'd be too scared to play it myself because I'm the worst at these types of games but I loved the storyline as well. I've also been playing horizon zero dawn which is kind of like monster hunter but it's more story based and it's robot animals instead or real ones. -Anna

Understanding Game Design

  Learning Game Design Fundamentals After reading "What is a game anyway?", it gave me a new perspective of what a game actually is. I've always had a straightforward way of thinking about it. I always knew it was an art as there are so many masterpieces of games out there, but there are so many different elements that actually make a game what it is. In order for a game to function as a game, it has to have rules, activities, goals, decision making and so many more aspects. All of the games that I have played or that are out there have these elements and are the reason why they exist. I have also learned that people have different interpretations of games and what they are, but to me a game is where you get to forget about the outside world and immerse yourself into the experience and enjoy yourself. Alpha

Setting up the Menu   For this week and to try to make this game look more like an alpha build, I fixed the camera issue I had in my previous sessions. I had to delete my previous scripts for the camera and created new ones which finally managed to work. The only thing that I couldn't really get right once I fixed my main camera issue is the clamp method to adjust how far the player could turn and look up but overall I got what I wanted. I also managed to set up the pause menu for the game so that the player could enter the settings or quit the level if they wanted to. The thing that I had a problem with was because the key to fire is the left mouse button, and to select one of the pause menu you need to click the left mouse button, it fires the arrow even though the game is frozen and it's something I'm currently trying to fix. The things I need to fully add are the fire arrows, the in game hud and the main menu and after that I would say that the beta build would be final
